LKG the Ploegh
De Ploegh was founded by young Amersfoorters who had found each other in illegal existence as artists during the war. Founders were Max Keuris, Toon Tieland and Johan (Joop) Traarbach. Initially, De Ploegh had a broader scope than just visual art. There was also an instrumental, vocal and declamatory department. The association had 31 active members at the time, and the various departments organized joint art evenings in addition to their own. In 1971, the growing association received its own exhibition space. In March 1975, a merger with the Amersfoort Artists' Society takes place to achieve further growth.
LKG de Ploegh connects people with visual art through surprising and versatile exhibitions and gallery offerings. LKG de Ploegh thus wants to make the artistic qualities of its artists visible and bind (buyers) audiences to it. During all exhibitions, activities such as workshops, lectures and artist talks are organized, leading to a deeper understanding of the visual art on display.
The mission of LKG de Ploegh is to present, sell, meet, connect and experience. The association LKG de Ploegh is through its gallery outwardly focused. LKG de Ploegh also participates in exhibitions elsewhere and art fairs. It has an active, open attitude and embraces national cooperation with other cultural organizations.
The core values of LKG de Ploegh are:
- Quality and professionalism
- Versatility and diversity
- Connection with public
- Openness to the environment
